Letter to the Editor
Editor:
I read the Castro Courier today and found it very interesting and needed in this area. It was enjoyable and informative.
I want to comment on the photo shown in the publication (“Graduation Day,” July 2007). I believe this must have been a First Communion group rather than a graduating class as stated. The children were dressed in the traditional dress for First Communion.
Also, you mentioned the location of the Harvey Milk Academy. The Harvey Milk Academy was previously the Douglass Grammar School and was later named after Harvey Milk. It is located on 19th Street, between Diamond and Collingwood streets.
Most Holy Redeemer Grammar School was located on Diamond Street between 18th and 19th streets. The former Most Holy Redeemer Grammar School is now the Friends School, a Quaker school and is in the building of the previous Most Holy Redeemer Grammar School.
I am a senior and have lived in Eureka Valley for 42 years at my present address and have enjoyed its warm weather and spirit. I grew up in San Francisco and am a native Californian.
