Letter to the Editor

Editor:

I read your latest issue of the Castro Courier, which was again welcome, interesting and informative.
I am sorry to read of the problems on 19th and Douglass streets (“Neighborhood Watch Group Forming Near Douglass and 19th Streets,” Sept. 07). I read the Castro Crime Beat and have something to add.

On July 31, I was approached by two men at Caselli and Danvers streets. One of the suspects passed me and turned around and pushed me to the ground, grabbed my purse and ran with his companion toward 18th Street. This happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. and was totally unexpected as I was one block from my home at 19th and Danvers streets.

I went home immediately as there was no one else around and called 911. I was happy to see the police when they arrived and they were of great help.

I am senior of 78 years who has lived on 19th Street for a long, long time and want others to be aware of this. I don’t know why I wasn’t listed in the Crime Beat, as I have checked other publications also.

I send this for your information and for the awareness of others, especially seniors.
Thank you for your informative newspaper.

Rita Veideman
