Sept. 15, 12 p.m., Attempted Robbery, Buena Vista Park
The victim told officers that he was walking on a trail by the tennis courts when a suspect in his late twenties jumped out of the bushes. The suspect tried to steal the victim’s fanny pack from around his waist but the victim fought off the suspect with his cane, causing the suspect to run back into the bushes.
The victim went to a UCSF medical center where he was treated for a broken finger.

Sept. 4, 10:07 p.m., Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia, 17th and Roosevelt Streets
Officers responded to the unit block of Deming Street on the report of a male suspect hiding in the backyard yelling that someone was trying to shoot him. After searching the area, the officers were unable to locate the suspect.
While officers were still in the area, another call was broadcast of a man attempting to break into a window two blocks away. Units responded to this new location, and observed a male suspect walking east on 17th Street and detained him.
A search of the suspect revealed paraphernalia for smoking methamphetamine. After talking with the officers, they determined there was no merit to someone trying to kill the suspect and that he was having some type of adverse reaction to his years of drug use.
The suspect was taken to Park Station where he was later issued a citation and released.

Aug. 27, 1:15 p.m., Aggravated Assault, Alpine Terrace at Roosevelt Way
Officers responded to a reported violent person in the area. Upon arrival, several witnesses and the victim were struggling to restrain the suspect.
After securing the suspect, the victim stated that he was walking along the street when the suspect attacked him without provocation. The victim stated that he was choked by the suspect and almost lost consciousness. The victim managed to escape the suspect’s choke hold and was struggling with him when officers arrived and arrested the suspect.
The suspect was on active parole. In addition to the assault charge, a parole hold was placed on him.

Aug. 21, 6:58 a.m., Possession of Heroin, 700 block of 14th Street
Officers observed a suspect who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The officers stopped to investigate and determined that this individual was on active parole. Conducting a search of the suspect, the officers discovered a crack pipe in his possession, and placed him under arrest.
On the ride to the station, the officers noticed that the suspect was continually moving about in the car, which made them believe that he was trying to conceal contraband. A further search of the subject recovered a packet of tar heroin. The suspect was booked and sent to the Department of Corrections.

Aug. 26, 7:28 a.m., Auto Burglary, Unit block of Dorland Street
Officers responded to the report of an auto burglary and detained a suspect. The witness identified a suspect and officers located a vehicle on the street that had been ransacked. The defendant in this case has been arrested three times in the past four months for auto burglaries.

Aug. 27, 3:55 a.m., Park Code Violation, Buena Vista Park
Officers located a man who had become a habitual camper in Buena Vista Park. This suspect had been cited numerous times for the same violation. This time the suspect was cited for a misdemeanor and given a “notice to appear” and assigned a court date.

Aug. 28, 7:45 a.m., Felony Warrant Arrest, Buena Vista Park
Officers were checking the park for illegal campers when they came across a couple sleeping. Upon determining their identities, officers discovered one of the residents had a warrant placing him in immediate, albeit temporary housing. The other was issued a ticket for illegal camping and escorted out of the park.

Aug. 31, 5 a.m., Auto Burglary/Attempted Auto Theft, 18th & Castro Streets
Officers responded to the report of an auto burglary in progress. Witnesses were able provide a suspect description. The officers arrived to find the suspect inside the vehicle with a crowbar and the ignition damaged.
