San Francisco Amateur Astronomers’ Lecture Series: Wednesday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m. Filmmaker Paul Devlin follows the story of his brother, Mark Devlin PhD, as he leads a tenacious team of scientists hoping to figure out how all the galaxies formed by launching a revolutionary new telescope under a NASA high-altitude balloon. Birding the Hill: Friday, Nov. 20, 8 a.m. Come to Corona Heights Park to learn more about its avian inhabitants. The two-hour walk involves climbing a steep path and several stairs. The Randall Museum’s “Wild in the City:” Extended through Nov. 28. Learn about the various wild animals that live right among us in the heart of the city. Volunteer opportunities for ages 55+: RSVP of San Francisco and Alameda Counties matches adults older than 55 with meaningful volunteer opportunities. LGBT Diabetes Support Group: The first Tuesday of each month, 6:30 p.m. A safe space for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender diabetics and those in their lives to find support and information about living with diabetes in the LGBT community. Diabetes Support Group: Second Thursday of each month, 6-8 p.m. Listen to an expert speaker, then participate in a group discussion facilitated by a certified diabetes educator. Open to people with type 1 or 2, pre-diabetes and their family/support. California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). No registration required. This month, licensed clinical social worker Karen Weissmann will do a presentation on "Stress Management". Enter off of Duboce between Castro and Noe streets and into the North Tower.
