Community Safety Forum: Thursday, Nov. 6, 7-9 p.m. A forum will be held to discuss crime and public safety in the neighborhood. Panelists will include Captain Stephen Tacchini of the Mission police station, a lieutenant from the Park police station, and representatives of various nonprofit and community safety organizations. Co-sponsors include Castro Community on Patrol, Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association, Castro Community Benefits District and Merchants of Upper Market and Castro. 12th International Latino Film Festival: Friday, Nov. 7, The International Latino Film Society kicks off the 12th International Latino Film Festival on with a gala opening night, “Noche Cubana,” at the Castro Theatre. The festival will present screenings in eight Bay Area cities Nov. 7-23. All films include English subtitles. For more information visit LatinoFilmFestival.org.

Randall Museum Outdoor Seating Dedication: Saturday, Nov. 8, 9 a.m. Join the Randall Museum (photo above) as it dedicates an innovative, new, outdoor seating area. Friends of Duboce Park Volunteer Work Day: Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. – noon. Meet at the bulletin board near the playground and Muni stop. San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival (SFISAFF): Nov. 13-16. Opening at Brava Theater Center on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 13 and 14, and moving to the historic Castro Theater on Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16, 3rd I promotes diverse images of South Asians through independent film that ranges from art-house classics to documentary films, innovative and experimental visions to next-level Bollywood. San Francisco Amateur Astronomers’ Lecture Series: Wednesday, Nov. 19, 8 p.m. Join Jeff Cuzzi, scientist at NASA Ames Research Center, for a presentation on the major science highlights unveiled so far from the Cassini/Huygens mission to the giant planet Saturn. Learn about its spectacular rings, its small but very diverse icy moons, and its planet-sized moon Titan. Open to all ages but geared toward adults. Admission is free, with donations encouraged. Eureka Valley Promotion Association (EVPA): Thursday, Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m. Eureka Valley Recreation Center, 100 Collingwood St. June is our annual business meeting. The EVPA is the neighborhood group for Eureka Valley since 1881. See us on the web at evpa.org.

Birding the Hill: Friday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. Come to Corona Heights Park to learn more about its avian inhabitants. The two-hour walk involves climbing a steep path and several stairs. Call ahead at (415) 554-9600 x16 if you need to borrow binoculars. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 5 and up are welcome, and there is no cost. Habitat Restoration Volunteer Work Party: Saturday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. - noon. Keep Corona Heights Park healthy and beautiful for its native wildlife by joining habitat restoration volunteers. Natural History Lecture Series: Thursday, Nov. 25, 7:30 p.m. “Indigenous People of the Bay Area.” The lush local environment made the Bay Area one of the most densely populated places in the state prior to Portola’s “discovery” of San Francisco Bay in 1769. Join guest speaker Jose Rivera, an American Indian scholar and retired State Park Ranger, as he explains how the early inhabitants of the Bay Area, enjoyed and managed their environment for their own benefit.
