“Samuel Goldwyn Presents” at the Castro Theatre: Dec. 5-10. After successful but volatile periods at Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and United Artists, Goldwyn formed his own mini-studio specializing in lavish, talent-packed films. This series showcases these talents in memorable films from the Goldwyn Studios’ vast catalog, which received five Best Picture Oscar nominations. One Night Only Holiday Cabaret: Monday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m.: The Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation (REAF) presents a One Night Only Holiday Cabaret featuring Patty Duke, Teal Wicks with cast members from “Wicked” and other special guests including Lucie Arnaz, RJ Shelton, Connie Champagne & Leanne Borghesi. Diabetes Support Group: Thursday, Dec. 10, 6-8 p.m. Listen to an expert speaker, then participate in a group discussion facilitated by a certified diabetes educator. Open to people with type 1 or 2, pre-diabetes and their family/support. This month, registered dietitian Kathy Solis will do a presentation on Diabetes Wellness. San Francisco Silent Film Festival Winter Event: Saturday, Dec. 12, all day. The SF Silent Film Festival will celebrate the splendor of the silent era with four programs featuring live musical accompaniment, including the U.S. premiere of the restored film, “J'Accuse” (1919). Birding the Hill: Friday, Dec. 18, 8 a.m. Come to Corona Heights Park to learn more about its avian inhabitants. The two-hour walk involves climbing a steep path and several stairs. Snap/Shot: 99 Years of Looking Fabulous – Exhibition of photographs that were donated to the San Francisco Public Library by LGBT community members. Copied from treasured albums, old storage boxes and digital camera sticks, these photographs depict deeply personal moments with friends and family, as well as larger historical events, such as the Gay Pride Parade, the AIDS epidemic, and gay marriages. LGBT Sangha - Weekly Buddhist Meditation Group: Every Monday, 5:30 - 6:30 pm. All are welcome for a half-hour of silent meditation (with instruction if requested), followed by a Dharma talk given by a guest speaker. LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street, Room 300.
