Castro Crime Beat: December 2008
Nov. 12, 1:30 p.m., 400 Block of Castro Street, Theft
A suspect entered the business, acknowledged the employees and walked around the store for a few minutes. He then ran out of the store with approximately $1,600 worth of merchandise to a yellow Crown Victoria that was waiting outside with two other suspects inside. The vehicle sped away. The business recorded video footage of the suspect. No arrests have been made however.
Nov. 5, 6:15 p.m., Corner of Church & Market Streets, Misuse of Disabled Person Parking Placard
Two officers were patrolling the Safeway parking lot when they saw a woman sitting in a vehicle parked in a handicap parking space. The officers approached the woman and asked if the placard was hers and for proof of issuance from the DMV. The woman informed the officers that the placard belonged to her grandfather and that she borrowed the placard for her trip to the store.
The woman was arrested and cited at the scene for misuse of a parking placard for disabled people and given a parking citation.
Nov. 3, 3:57 a.m., Unit Block of Landers Street, Burglary
Two suspects obtained a key to an apartment building via a fire department lockbox during the night. They entered the building and cut locks of storage units in the basement. The owner of the building has video footage of the incident and the suspects. No arrests have been made.
Nov. 12, 9:15 a.m., 1100 Block of Dolores Street, Burglary
The suspect entered an apartment through a living room window that was left partially open. The suspect stole a laptop computer and left through the same window. No arrest has been made.
Oct. 30, 6:30 a.m., 100 Block of Dolores Street, Burglary
A man left his home unsecured and when he returned he discovered his laptop, camera and leather jacket were stolen.
Oct. 30 – Nov. 4, 7:33 a.m., 500 Block of Castro Street, Non-Residential Burglary
A suspect entered the business and was confronted by an employee who saw him holding a laptop. The suspect dropped the laptop and fled the scene. The incident was not reported because the laptop was recovered. A few days later the same employee discovered the glass door to the business smashed and the laptop was gone. No arrest has been made.
Oct. 29, 8:00 p.m., 200 Block of Dolores Street, Vehicular Theft
The victim returned to his vehicle to discover a window was smashed and all visible property including a suitcase, laptop, CDs, personal paperwork, vehicle paperwork and a set of spare keys were taken by a suspect. No arrest has been made.
Oct. 25, 10:00 p.m., 800 Block of Dolores Street, Burglary
The suspect entered the garage of an apartment building by picking the lock of the front door. The suspect took a mountain bike. No arrest has been made.
Oct. 24, 10:00 p.m., Unit Block of Ramona Street, Burglary
The suspect entered the apartment through a small bathroom window. The victim reported two laptops, money and some jewelry were stolen. No arrest has been made.
