Castro Area Planning + Action Monthly Meeting: Thursday, Apr. 10, 7:30-9 p.m. CAPA, the Castro’s community-based volunteer planning organization will meet in the Blue Room at the Eureka Valley Rec. “If These Walls Could Talk”: Reaves Gallery One Year Anniversary Celebration: Friday, Apr. 11, 6-9 p.m. This anniversary and fundraiser tradition, established by gallery owner Sharon Reaves, will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Artists whose works are featured will be present to discuss their work with the public. The reception is open and free to all. Reaves Gallery, 2344 Market St.. (between Noe and Castro streets).

The Fourth Annual Café con Comedy: Friday, Apr. 11, 7:30 p.m. Kung Pao Kosher Comedy presents this bi-annual gathering of half a dozen diverse, Bay Area comedians: Ali Mafi, Julia Jackson, Gretchen Rootes, Carla Clayy, Lisa Geduldig, and Doug Ferrari. Friends of Duboce Park Volunteer Days: Saturday, April 12, 10 a.m. – noon. Meet at the bulletin board near the playground and Muni stop. Opera in the Castro: Monday, Apr. 14 (“Don Giovanni”) and Monday, Apr. 21 (“Madama Butterfly”). Enjoy digital cinema broadcasts of these SF Opera productions in the comfort and magical environment of the Castro Theatre. Mariusz Kwiecien sings the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, while Patricia Racette stars as the tragic heroine Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” opposite young tenor Branson Jovanovich. Each day showings will be at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $20 ($10 students) and are available online (www.castrotheatre.com) or at the theater box office on the day of the performance.

San Francisco Amateur Astronomers’ Lecture Series: Wednesday, Apr. 16, 8 p.m. Join Dr. Nick Kanas for a presentation on Star Maps: History, Artistry, and Cartography as he traces the history of celestial cartography from the age of classical Greece to the modern day. Open to all ages but geared toward adults. Admission is free. Randall Museum Theatre. 199 Museum Way.

Eureka Valley Promotion Association: Thursday, April 17, 7:30 p.m. EVPA monthly meeting. The EVPA has been a neighborhood group in Eureka Valley since 1881. Eureka Valley Recreation Center, 100 Collingwood Street. Visit evpa.org for more information.

Birding the Hill: Friday, Apr. 18, 8 a.m. Come to Corona Heights Park to learn more about its avian inhabitants. The two-hour walk involves climbing a steep path and several stairs. Call ahead at (415) 554-9600 x16 if you need to borrow binoculars. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 5 and up are welcome, and there is no cost. Screening of “Europa Europa”: Friday, Apr. 18, 6:30 p.m. Cine/Club at the Randall Museum invites all to view this Polish film as a part of this classic screening series, to be followed by group discussions exploring the history and depth of classic films. 51st SF International Film Festival: Thursday, Apr. 24, 7 p.m. Opening night of the festival features Catherine Breillat’s “The Last Mistress,” a film exploring themes of female sexuality. Tickets are $70 and include the film screening and an after party at Metreon. Tickets are only available to year-round Film Society members and to Festival Fans, both of whom whose memberships must be valid through May. Castro Theatre.

Natural History Lecture Series: Thursday, April. 24, 7:30 p.m. Join Bay Area naturalist Jim Mackey for a visual tour of the beautiful San Pedro Valley County Park. He will focus on some of the iconic wildlife of the region while commenting on the newts of surrounding localities in the Bay Area. Admission is free. Donations are encouraged. Screening of “Some Like It Hot”: Friday, Apr. 25, 6:30 p.m. Cine/Club at the Randall Museum invites all to view this film by Billy Wilder in this classic screening series, to be followed by group discussions exploring the history and depth of classic films. 51st SF International Film Festival: Friday, April. 25, 9:30 p.m. Black Francis, former front man of the Pixies will perform the world premiere of his score to the silent German classic “The Golem,” in which a rabbi in 16th century Prague who crafts a sort of proto-Frankenstein called the Golem. Bug Day!: Saturday, Apr. 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Annual family-fun day celebrating insects of all kinds. Enjoy bug-related crafts and learn about how important bugs are to life on the planet. $3 per child and $5 per parent/child combo. Randall Museum 199 Museum Way (off Roosevelt, above Castro & 14th).

Habitat Restoration Volunteer Work Party: Saturday, Apr. 26, 10 a.m. Keep Corona Heights Park healthy and beautiful. Meet at the Randal Museum at 10 a.m. and call ahead to sign up at (415) 554-9600 x16. There is no cost, and ages 10 and up are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a parent. 199 Museum Way.
